Stating that farmers constitute 60 per cent of the country’s population, Stalin said the imposition of GST on fertilizers, pesticides and agricultural implements was a fatal blow to the farming community

Addressing a campaign in Dindigul, the DMK president termed the Centre’s announcement to provide a special assistance of Rs 6,000 inthree instalments to farmers as a drama, adding that it was a ploy to deceive them.

Stalin charged that the Narendra Modi government served only the corporates in India and ignored the common man. Referring to the poll manifesto released by the NDA, he raised a series of questionson several issues such as waiver of farm loans and minimum support price for paddy farmers and other agricultural produce.

“Modi promised to bring back black money from foreign countries and deposit Rs 15 lakh in every citizen’s account within hundred days after assuming charge. But, nothing happened and none of those promises were fulfilled.”

Coming down heavily on the State government, he said the ruling AIADMK was trying to conceal the truth behind sex scandal in Pollachi and not willing to take serious action against such atrocities.

Citing incidents concerning pregnant women affected due to contaminated blood in government hospitals, Stalin said there was no safety for pregnant women in the State.

Making poll promises for the Nilakottai Assembly constituency, he said steps would be taken to establish a scent factory for flower merchants, concrete channel from the Vaigai to ensure water supply to villages, expansion of the ‘58th channel scheme’ to parts of Batlagundu and Nilakottai unions and procurement centres for banana and English vegetables grown in tribal villages at Batlagundu.
