Ganeshamurthy, who arrived at the collectorate around 12.30pm, waited for about 45 minutes, before being taken to the room of Election officer. He was made to wait there for another fifteenminutes.

Claiming that he did not get a proper response for the delay,Ganeshamurthy sat on aprotest. He was then immediately invited to file his nomination papers.

Speaking to newspersons, the MDMK leader said that police informed him over the phone on Monday that he was allotted 30 minutes from 1 pm to 1.30 pm to file his nomination.

“As I was not called till 1.30 pm, I sat on a protest. When I raised the issue with the Collector, he clarified that nominations are filed only on first-come-first -serve basis and no fixed timings had been given to candidates. Thereafter, I expressed my reservations over the issue,” he said.

Ganeshamurthy, who was earlier expected to contest on an independent symbol, will now contest on the DMK’s ‘Rising Sun’ symbol.
