Around 11,650 applications were submitted online, while 9,799 applications were submitted to the Directorate of Medical Education. More than 11,000 students cleared PG NEET this year. The number of medical seats has seen an increase by 40 per cent to 1,758 this year.

The merit list will be released on April 3. The list for Tamil Nadu PG medical admission will allot the State-wise rank to the candidates, which will be followed by counselling, tentatively scheduled for the first week of April.

“This year, the total seat intake for 50 per cent State quota will be around 823 seats, while the admissions will be taken only on the basis of NEET PG score. The merit list for Tamil Nadu PG medical admission will allot the State rank to the candidates, which will be followed by the counselling,” said Dr G Selvaraj, secretary, Directorate of Medical Education.

The counselling process is expected to go online from the current academic year (2019-2020). The system will also include seat allotment and choice selection, which would help avoid the applicants from standing in queues to attend counselling at the allotted centres. They would not also have to travel from different parts of the State to attend counselling once the new system is in place.

The academic session for PG medical courses will commence on May 1.
