Forest minister Dindigul C Srinivasan, who has a habit of making daring statements, for once got into damage control mode. Srinivasan was forced to correct his master of ceremony (MC) who proposed the wrong symbol from aboard the campaign vehicle. Instead of promoting PMK’s ‘Mango’ symbol, he was announcing another symbol and, that too with the candidate standing beside. An alert Srinivasan not only cut the MC short, but also corrected the symbol, leaving the handful on board the campaign vehicle in splits.

However, the statement of the day came from the opposition DMK camp. DMK president Stalin’s son and ‘Murasoli’ managing director Udhayanidhi Stalin on Wednesday sought votes citing party candidate’s beauty. Opening the election office in South Chennai Parliamentary constituency, Udhayanidhi said, “Vote for our beautiful candidate,” which caught an effervescent Tamilachi Thangapandian, south Chennnai candidate of DMK, standing beside him off guard. An otherwise articulate Tamilachi known for rhetoric flourish and poetry at public meetings turned shy and covered her broad smile. A humourous Udhayanidhi came up with an instant clarification saying, “I meant the beauty of her language, oratory and writing. Vote for it.” Curiously, the statement on beauty was not the only crowd puller at the function. A good number of eyebrows were raised as the Udhayanidhi turned up to open the election office of Tamilachi, an indication that the DMK first family was putting all its weight behind the poet-politician from one of the prominent DMK families.
