SCERT’s career guidance tools for Class 10, 12 students
The TN State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has launched a comprehensive career guidance material for students completing Class 10 and 12 this academic year.
Chennai
The materials aim at empowering students to make informed decisions while pursuing higher education. A senior SCERT official told DT Next on Thursday that the guidance material also contains exclusive details about the importance of various competitive exams like JEE and NEET.
Stating that the authorities were concerned about the difficulties students studying in government and aided schools face while choosing the right courses for themselves, the official said TN Textbook and Educational Services Corporation has decided to print over five lakh career guidance handbooks for Class 10 and 12 students.
He said the materials and career guidance handbooks will be provided separately for Classes 10 and 12 by SCERT in collaboration with Directorate of Employment and Training. These will contain different career options and registration cum feedback forms, he added.
Also, the handbooks, which will be printed in Tamil and English, will contain information about various scholarship programmes including the funding pattern offered by the government, he said. It will also include information about National Talent Search Examination.
“Details regarding the application methods for competitive exams, related portals and registration processes will be available in the handbooks,” he said. The books will be distributed among students once the schools reopen in the coming academic year.
The books will have a list of colleges and the courses they offer besides highlighting polytechnic programmes available in government and private institutions for Class 10 students, he said. “Scopes of employment after pursuing various courses will also be discussed in the books,” he said.
The handbooks will also feature details about the Railway Recruitment Board, Staff Selection Commission, State Public Service Commission, TN Uniform Service Recruitment Board, Indian Postal Service and Defence.
