Bail-granted, Nirmala walks out of jail
Former assistant professor Nirmala Devi, who was arrested last year for allegedly luring college girls to do sexual favours for MKU authorities, was released on bail on Wednesday. She walked out of the Madurai central prison after her bail order was submitted to the jail authorities.
Virudhunagar Judicial Magistrate K Mumtaz on Tuesday granted the bail after directing her to furnish a surety bond. Nirmala Devi was arrested by the Aruppukottai town police on April 16 last year.
The case was later transferred to the CB-CID, who arrested two others, Murugan, MKU assistant professor and Karuppasamy, a research scholar, as co-accused. The case is presently being heard by the Srivilliputhur fast track mahila court after the CB-CIB submitted a chargesheet. Meanwhile, the judge of the mahila court on Wednesday adjourned the case, which came up for hearing. Both Murugan and Karuppasamy were produced amid tight security, sources said.
