Pollachi sexual assault case: Attacker of victim’s brother withdraws bail plea
The Madras High Court on Monday dismissed as withdrawn an anticipatory bail plea moved by one of persons linked to the Pollachi Sexual assault and extortion case, who had allegedly attacked the victim’s brother.

When the case came up for hearing before Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan, the counsel for Mani alias Manivannan sought to withdraw the plea, following which it was dismissed.
Manivannan is accused of being involved in attacking the de facto complainant’s brother, when he approached him seeking the return of the videos involving his sister. Following the attack and threats, the victim’s brother had filed a separate complaint. Hence, fearing arrest, Manivannan had moved the plea seeking anticipatory bail.
Meanwhile, Vinothini, the organising secretary of Coimbatore district women’s wing of the Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam had moved a plea seeking to implead herself in the case. The unruly behaviour of Manivannan was highly condemnable and deserves to be dealt with an iron hand, she said, adding that the offence, which has been systematically executed with a pre-planning, was grave in nature. It did not confine to the de facto complainant alone, as many girls have been affected by the group with high political connections, she alleged.
In this juncture, if bail was granted to Manivannan, it would send out a wrong message to the society and open the flood gate for more such types of crime. Moreover, he was capable of interfering with the investigations and would escape from the clutches of law, she said opposing the anticipatory bail plea.
