Speaking to newspersons here, the CPM leader took a dig at the AIADMK for maintaining a stoic silence in the issue. “The State government has failed to implement the Madras High Court order to give Rs 25 lakh ascompensation to the victim. It has also failed to initiate action against the Superintendent of Police for revealing the victim’s name.”

Claiming that it was a case of contempt of court, Ramakrishnan said, “Instead of taking action against the perpetrators of the offence, the government has been targeting protestors fighting for justice,” he said.

Replying to a query on aligning with the Congress despite their differences in ideology and economic policies, Ramakrishnan said his party has firmed up the alliance after taking into account the prevailing political scenario in the State.

“We have not compromised on our party’s ideology. We have formed an alliance to protect the country and Tamil Nadu from fascist BJP and corrupt AIADMK. All the parties in our alliance are concerned about the danger posed by these two parties.”

On the criticism by BJP leaders about the secular nature of the alliance, even though parties such as Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam were part of it, Ramakrishnan said,“These parties were also fighting for the causes supported by the CPM.”

“The alliance parties are fighting against various issues like theNEET and GST confronted by the people for the past two years,” Ramakrishnan said.

As part of the election strategy, the DMK-led Secular Progressive Front will raise issues on secularism, democracy and economic policies. More than 50,000 micro, small and medium industries have been shut. More than five lakh people have lost their jobs across Tamil Nadu, he said.

CPM’s Coimbatore candidate for the Lok Sabha polls P R Natarajan was also present during the media interaction.
