Man gets jail for assaulting minor

According to the police, Mayan (52), a resident of Kakkanpalayam near Tirupattur town, on May 23, 2015 followed the minor girl when she went to purchase milk. After befriending her, he lured her into an empty building where molested her. He later threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.

The girl, however, narrated the incident to her parents who immediately lodged a complaint with the Tirupatthur all-women police. They soon arrested Mayan and filed a case with the Mahila court. Mahila court judge Selvam, after going through the evidence, sentenced Mayan under POCSO Act to three years’ rigorous imprisonment, besides slapping a fine of Rs. 3000, on Friday. Mayan was subsequently sent to the Vellore central prison.
