    CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan on Friday announced renowned writer and Sahitya Akademi award winner Su Venkatesan as candidate for Madurai Lok Sabha constituency.

    Akademi award winner at Madurai
     Venkatesan received the Sahitya Akademi award for his book ‘KaavalKottam’ in 2011 and the Tamil movie ‘Aravaan’ was based on his work. Venkatesan shot into prominence recently for his involvement in Keezhadi Archaeological works and his theory of Vaigai River Civilization. He is also the secretary of Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association. He contested in Tirupparankundram Assembly constituency on a CPM ticket in 2006,but lost the elections.

    Veteran gets ticket for Coimbatore seat
    Former MP PR Natarajan has been field by the Left party as its candidate for the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency. He is one of the senior comrades of the party and the member of the District Executive Committee of the party. He was elected from the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency in 2009. Natrajan has been member of the party since 1968 and for 42 years he was a full-time employee of the party. He has held various posts, including CPM Town Secretary of Coimbatore, District Secretary of Coimbatore and also some state level posts.
