Retired IAS official held for job fraud, cheating
A retired IAS officer, who cheated scores of people to the tune of Rs 5.5 crore on the promise of getting them jobs in Transport Department and also medical seats at a private college, was arrested by a special team of the Central Crime Branch.

The accused, V Mohanraj (62) of Anna Nagar West Extension, is a promotee officer who retired from the State Transport Department as deputy secretary in January 2017.
In September 2018, the anti-job fraud wing of CCB arrested K Navappan (28) of Tiruvannamalai district for cheating several people of Rs 5 crore. Claiming to be an IAS official, he had promised them jobs as drivers and conductors in the Transport Department.
As Navappan had used the office premises of Mohanraj in the Secretariat during 2015-16, the Madras High Court had directed the police to investigate the involvement of Mohanraj in the job racket. During interrogation, Mohanraj initially told police that Navappan introduced himself as an IAS official and wanted to use his office premises whenever he visited the city, which he obliged. However, police later found out Mohanraj colluded with Navappan and shared the loot. He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Endowment Document Fraud-I wing of CCB has also arrested Mohanraj in connection with a 2015-year case in which he cheated a man of Rs 50 lakh on the promise of getting his daughter a medical seat at a private college. As he did not fulfil his promise, the victim, A Ahmed (49) of Nungambakkam, had lodged a complaint with CCB.
Man held for Rs 20 crore cheating
The Endowment Document Fraud -II wing of CCB arrested a 42-year-ol man for allegedly cheating about 10 doctors to the tune of Rs 20 crore on the promise of setting up a hospital for them and procuring medical equipment. The accused Prakash of Thiru Vi Ka Nagar was remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
Police said Prakash befriended Dr Gangadharan at Government Royapettah Hospital in 2006 and then started introducing himself as Gangadharan’s relative to other doctors.
He received Rs 5.5 crore from Gangadharan in the pretext of buying a land at Mylapore to set up the hospital, while other doctors gave him money for foreign trips and to buy medical equipment.
When the doctors asked him to return the money, Prakash attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills at his house. Since then, he remained absconding.
