Rahul unlikely to release Cong list: Alagiri
With elections to Lok Sabha constituencies being scheduled on April 18 in the state, KS Alagiri, TNCC president, has sought the Election Commission (EC) to ensure free and fair conduct of the polls.
Madurai
While Rahul Gandhi, president, All India Congress Committee (AICC) is scheduled to address party cadres in a public rally at Nagercoil in Kanniyakumari district on Wednesday, Alagiri along with senior leaders of the party took stock of arrangements in place at the programme venue on Tuesday.
He said the possibility of Rahul Gandhi announcing the names of party candidates contesting the polls during his schedule in Nagercoil is unlikely.
Talking to reporters at Nagercoil, Alagiri said the ruling AIADMK with the support of its cadres was ready to distribute money to voters after setting aside a whopping sum of Rs 50 crore in each of the constituencies. Hence, he appealed to the EC to be more vigilant to prevent any such act of bribing voters.
Further, he said voters would give the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) a clear mandate since the BJP-led group was indulging in diving people in the name of religion, caste and creed. “It’s time for the people to dethrone the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government,” he said.
Moreover, he added that the EC should consider legitimate demands of representatives of various political parties for making amends in the schedule of Lok Sabha polls in Madurai constituency. Polls were scheduled on April 18 on which a key annual Chithirai festival was also scheduled in Madurai and the representatives expressed uncertainty over polling to the maximum.
