DMK president MK Stalin interviewed his stepsister and Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi, who had applied to contest in Thoothukudi constituency, at the party headquarters in Chennai on Sunday.

Party sources said Kanimozhi was the only applicant for the Thoothukudi seat, which she has been cultivating with multiple visits in the recent days. She appeared before the committee comprising of MK Stalin, TR Baalu and Duraimurugan. Apart from Kanimozhi, others who had applied from Kanniyakumari and Tirunelveli constituencies have also been interviewed during the day, sources said.
Even before the DMK finalised seat sharing with the allies, talks were rife that Kanimozhi would contest from Thoothukudi and the sitting MP has rented a house in the ‘pearl city’ to organise election campaigns.
“As many as 33 party workers sent application on behalf of Kanimozhi. During the interview, she apprised the party president about the situation in Thoothukudi and the possibility of winning,” party sources said.
Meanwhile, 39 party members from Tirunelveli and 25 from Kanniyakumari attended the interview for the respective seats. “Final list of candidates will be released in a week,” the source added.
