Man commits suicide after his kids complain of sexual assault
A 45-year-old man committed suicide fearing police action after a complaint was lodged against him at Ashok Nagar all-women police station for allegedly sexually harassing two minor daughters.
Chennai
The two children, studying in Class 9 and Class 7, were rescued by the Child Helpline staff. They have now been lodged at a government home.
Police said the man, who had been working as a welder, had allegedly sexually abused his daughters over the past few years. He did this after coming home drunk.
His wife had committed suicide five years, reportedly because she was unable to witness the abusive ways of her husband. Three days ago, the girls had sought the help of the Child Helpline. The helpline in turn lodged a complaint at the Ashok Nagar all-Women Police station. After the man was called by the police for an inquiry, he hanged himself to death at his residence. Further investigations are on.
