Four held for attacking head constable
The police arrested three men and a juvenile for attacking a head constable after he restricted them from drinking on a church campus at Peerkankaranai on Wednesday night. The gang was reportedly under the influence of ganja when they attacked the policeman in civilian clothes.

Head constable Ilango attached to the modern control room was near the church with his family when he saw the youngsters consuming alcohol on the campus.
As he was not in uniform when he asked them to not drink there, the gang assumed he was an imposter and started attacking him with stones. The injured policeman was taken to a hospital by his brother. Passers-by nabbed the gang and handed them over to the police.
Based on a complaint, the police arrested Basha, Sathanaram and Karthi and sent the juvenile to a government observation home.
An investigation is on to identify others who were involved in the attack.
