A few members of the Maoist organisation were believed to have escaped during the gun battle at Wayanad district on Wednesday. To prevent them from infiltrating into Tamil Nadu through the porous state borders, police enhanced vigil and took up patrolling in border villages.

The Coimbatore rural police along with the anti-naxal wing personnel combed the forest areas in Anaikatty, Pillur, Mullikadu and Thannerpallam. The West Zone IG K Periaiah said that the police have been put on high alert on the interstate border between Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

“We have asked hospitals located in the state borders to inform police if Maoist elements come with injuries for treatment. Patrolling has also been increased in The Nilgiris and Coimbatore district to prevent any extremist’s infiltration,” he said.

Police have asked people in tribal villages to inform them if they find any movement of suspicious persons. Security has also been strengthened in all check posts and all vehicles entering Coimbatore and The Nilgiris from Kerala are thoroughly checked before being allowed.
