Artistic tribute to Mahatma in Thanjavur
Several award-winning artists and sculptors from different southern states converged at a special camp organised to mark Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary in Thanjavur on Wednesday and displayed their talent. Various creations of the experts made during the camp will be put on display for the public.

“As a mark of respect to the Father of the Nation, we have organised this special camp from Wednesday. It will go on till March 12 and as many as 42 national award-winning artists and sculptors from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and also from Kolkata have come here to take part in the special camp”, said, Director of South Zone Cultural Centre M Balasubramanian.
He said, after the completion of the special camp gets, the creations of these experts would be on display for the public from March 13. The exhibits would be displayed for public viewing till March 19. Noentry charge will be collected.
The artists have commenced their works and they would exhibit their creations as a form of honour to Gandhi.
Meanwhile, a rendition on Thevaram and Thirumurai would be held at the Big Temple from March 13 to 15 and a Nadhaswaram concert would be held at Tiruvarur Thiagarajaswamy temple from March 17 to 21 in which famous exponents would participate, said Balasubramanian.
Similarly, a drama festival has been planned from March 18 to 23 at Tamil University to encourage modern drama and famous artistes from various parts of the nation would participate, he said.
