Teaching associations decry closure of vocational courses
Instead of closing the vocational training courses due to lack of faculty, Tamil Nadu Vocational Teachers Federation called on the state government to ensure that the existing vacancies in vocational teaching posts are filled, according to federation general secretary SN Janardhanan.
Vellore
Talking to DT Next, he said, of the total 4,324 vocational teaching post that are remaining vacant, 600 are vacant in Vellore district alone. Of the 600, he said that 80 vacancies fell vacant after the retirement of the concerned teachers.
“Instead of filling up the vacancies, the government shuts down the courses citing lack of teaching staff. This results in aspirants for the vocational training being let down,” he said.
Till date many courses including accountancy and auditing, dress designing and dress making, electrical machinery and electronic equipment, are closed.
When asked about the response of the government for their demand, he said, “The government’s response is always positive. They say that they will consider our demands, but the shutting down of vocational courses are also carried out.”
On the action that the federation proposed to undertake, he said, the mode of our agitation would be decided once the parliamentary elections are over.
