He said that symbols have not assumed great significance to political parties in the elections. He was speaking to reporters after inaugurating his party’s ‘Kariyalayam’ for Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday.

“As the AMMK has gained a large support of people and cadres, who are loyal to former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, party symbol was nothing. Nowadays, people are aware of what’s happening and any party symbol would not matter much,” he said denying any set back to his party following the Delhi High Court order in favour of the AIADMK.

Dhinakaran exuded confidence that the AMMK would contest from all 40 Lok Sabha constituencies in ‘Cooker’ symbol and win the elections. It was certain that the AMMK would retain the ‘Cooker’ symbol and contest the polls.

Earlier, cadres accorded him a warm welcome at Anjugramam. Dhinakaran along with cadres had dharshan at Bagavathi Amman Temple and offered prayers, sources said. Subsequently, he garlanded the statue of former chief minister K Kamaraj at Kottaram.

Earlier, in Tirunelveli, he said decision would be arrived at forming alliance with parties once the Election Commission notified the poll schedule. Challenging the Delhi High Court order, he said the AMMK has moved the Supreme Court to freeze the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol. He claimed that there was an overwhelming support from people in the 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu and one from Puducherry for his party AMMK.
