MTC receives eight new buses in fifth phase
As part of the fifth phase, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami flagged off 500 new buses, including two air-conditioned buses, at the Secretariat on Tuesday. The total cost of the buses is around Rs 132.87 crore and the two AC buses were allocated to TNSTC Villupuram.

The MTC received a total of eight buses while TNSTC Villupuram received 198 buses and 134 buses for TNSTC Salem. A total of 160 buses were allocated for Kumbakonam Transport Corporation.
In the new lot, the MTC was given two small buses which were built at the cost of Rs 37.98 lakh. According to officials, one small bus will be operated from the Tondiarpet depot. Other regular buses will be operated along long-distance routes which are commercially viable to the transport utility.
The new air-conditioned buses have special features, including push back seats, 3*2 seats, six loud speakers, LED lights, mobile charging units, air-ventilator and escape hatch, flooring mat, automatic doors with remote control, reverse parking sensor and auto headlight levelling facility.
In the first phase, the government inaugurated 515 buses which were built at a cost of Rs 134.53 core last June. It was allocated to seven transport corporations, excluding the MTC.
In the second phase, 471 buses were launched last October, which was allocated to eight transport corporations. It was built at a cost of Rs 126.79 crore.
In the third phase, 555 new buses built at Rs 140 crore were allocated to six transport corporations this January. The next phase witnessed 275 buses which were allocated to five corporations, last month.
