5,000 Tasmac outlets to get fire extinguishers soon
Official sources revealed that as many as 5000 TASMAC shops across Tamil Nadu were provided with fire-fighting equipment to meet emergencies and the representatives of the TASMAC staff union, including supervisors and salesmen are now expected to get an official clearance to set up shops only in buildings that are approved by the concerned officials.

This announcement has however not gone too well with the salesmen and supervisors.
After a litigant moved the court, nearly 200 TASMAC shops in Vellore and Arkonam divisions will be provided with fire extinguishers soon.
While Arkonam officials said extinguishers have been provided to all 84 shops in their jurisdiction, Vellore division officials said extinguishers will be distributed to nearly 120 shops under their control.
Even though extinguishers will be provided, the staff in these outlets have no idea on how to operate them.
“We will read the instructions on the extinguisher only when an emergency arises. However, it would be too late by then. We should be provided with some training to operate these extinguishers as it will not take more than 30 minutes to learn the basics,” the source added.
Official sources said that as of now there was no move to provide any such training to the staff. While the salesmen and supervisors welcome the fire-fighting equipment move, sources said that the announcement regarding building approval may not be accepted by many.
Reason behind this is that both salesmen and supervisors were told to possess a copy of the plan and approval by the concerned authority with them at all times. While no other concrete reason was given for this order, staff say they will try to follow the rules.
