A division bench comprising Justice M Sathyanarayanan and Justice M Nirmal Kumar who took up the plea based on a mention made by advocate Sudha Ramalingam, recorded the submission made by the Government that investigation was progressing in the right direction and sought two weeks to file a report. Based on this, the bench then posted the case to March 18 for further hearing. Earlier, advocate Sudha Ramalingam submitted that the police have not taken up the investigation seriously as is evident from the witnesses called and the line of questioning.

She said the CB-CID, on keeping those called for the probe to wait for at least two hours, finally ask them details about the petitioner Henri Tiphagne’s family and as to why the advocate has taken up the issue pro bono.

She also pointed out to a Facebook post by an inspector attached to the Rajapalayam police station mentioning as ‘Samadhi’ to a post asking about the whereabouts of Mugilan.

Mugilan had gone missing on February 15 after he claimed at a press conference in Chennai that senior police officers were involved in the police firing at anti-Sterlite protests that killed 13 people.
