Pollachi DMK workers demand CB-CID inquiry into love trap case
Even as special teams of police are on a hunt for the key accused of a gang involved in ‘love trap’ case in Pollachi near Coimbatore, the DMK workers blocked road demanding a CB-CID inquiry into the case.
Around 90 DMK cadres, including 25 women, were arrested in connection with the protest, which disrupted traffic on Palakkad Road and Udumalai Road. Police have so far arrested three members of the gang, who sexually abused several college girls and a young woman after luring them into love trap through social media. The members of the gang used to videograph the act and later extort money from the victims.
The incident came to light after a 19-year-old girl, a student of a private college, gave a complaint to Coimbatore rural police. Police arrested N Sabarirajan, 25, N Sathish, 29, and T Vasanthakumar, 22; however, the mastermind of the gang K Thirunavukkarasu is still absconding.
Meanwhile, DMK workers resorted to protest alleging that the police have left the main accused go scot-free as he is close to an AIADMK leader. “The families of the victim women have been receiving threats from culprits against approaching the police. Though police have seized several videos of victims being abused by the gang, the police have been lethargic in initiating stringent action,” claimed the protesting DMK workers.
However, police claimed that the victims were not forthcoming to lodge complaints. In another development a WhatsApp audio purportedly that of the absconding accused Thirunavukkarasu has been circulated among the public. In the audio, he claims to face threats for his life from several quarters. However, police are yet to ascertain the veracity of the audio tape.
It was on Friday the Pollachi MP C Mahendran petitioned SP Pandiarajan to take stringent action against the gang and denied any pressure on police from the AIADMK in the case.
