HC refuses to interfere with JIPMER entrance
The Madras High Court has refused to interfere with the multiple session entrance exam mode adopted by the Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry.
Chennai
A division bench comprising Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice V Bhavani Subbaroyan on allowing the appeal filed by the Dean, JIPMER, against a single judge’s order directing them to conduct online examination in a single session on a single day with the same set of question paper from 2019 onwards, said, “We are of the considered view that no positive direction can be issued to the JIPMER to conduct single examination with a single question paper throughout the country especially when the total number of cities covered are more than 124 with over 1.54 lakh nodes.”
Additional Solicitor General G Rajagopalan assisted by JIPMER’s Counsel T Arunan had submitted that the suggestions given by the single judge were taken up for active consideration and the Dean (Academics) had taken up the matter with Tata Consultancy Services, which has been providing nodes for conducting the exams.
The bench on perusing the report submitted by Tata Consultancy, said “It is seen that there are several logistic issues which are involved in the process and the said agency has sated that considering the candidates count for the previous year it is predicted that about 2.33 lakh candidates would take the entrance examination for 2019 and hence it is acceptable to conduct exams in multiple sessions.”
The plea moved before the single judge had sought to quash the online examination conducted by the Director, JIPMER, by giving two different sets of 200 questions to the candidates in each shift for admission to MBBS degree course for academic session 2016-17 and consequently direct the JIPMER to conduct online entrance examination in a single shift.
