    Siblings held for attack on Dalit

    The Kumbakonam taluk police have arrested two caste Hindu youth on charges of trespassing into the house of a Dalit labourer and attacking him.

    For It is said, C Balamurugan (30), a Dalit labourer of Vaiyapuri Street in Koranattu Karuppur near Kumbakonam, was at his house on Wednesday night. Around 10.45 pm, S Vivek (28) of Mananchery near Kumbakonam along with his brother, S Praveen Kumar (31) trespassed into the house of Balamurugan and reportedly attacked him with the handle of a machete and abused Balamurugan referring his caste name.


    Balamurugan, who was injured in the attack, lodged a complaint with the Kumbakonam Taluk Police. Police inquiries revealed Vivek used to frequent the house of Balamurugan, when he was not at home. The purpose of visit was to meet a girl, reportedly a relative of Vivek and a collegemate of Balamurugan’s sister.


    When Balamurugan came to know of this, he reportedly warned Vivek. Later the girl stopped talking to Vivek. Due to this, Vivek along with his brother went to the house of Balamurugan and attacked him, sources said.


    Acting on the complaint of Balamurugan, the Kumbakonam Taluk police registered a case under Section 452 (house trespass), Section 294 (b) (using obscene words), Section 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and various sections of SC, ST (Prevention of atrocities) Act and arrested Vivek and Praveen Kumar on Thursday.
