Once again, Captain dragging on alliance talks till eleventh hour
The Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam (DMDK) which has not confirmed its alliance with any of the two major Dravidian parties is making the other parties wait for confirming their alliance and the number of seats to be allotted by them.

The DMDK, which is going to face its fifth major election since the launch of the party, in 2005, is still in a deadlock for formation of alliance. Due to the delay, finalisation of seats in the alliance is getting delayed in both the DMK and the AIADMK camp as both the camps are desperate in roping in the DMDK to their front.
According to the DMDK inside sources, the party is holding talks with both the DMK and the AIADMK simultaneously and the party is in a mood to swing to the alliance which offers maximum number of seats.
“If the DMDK decides to go with the DMK alliance they had to adjust seats by grabbing one seat each from minor parties in their alliance and similar is the case in AIADMK alliance too where the seat sharing process had not been completed due to the DMDK’s indecision,” said sources.
However, this is not the first time that DMDK is dragging the alliance talks.
Ever since the DMDK started aligning with parties the party has the habit of making into the alliance at the eleventh hour.
In the Assembly elections in 2011, DMDK aligned with the AIADMK but the alliance formation witnessed high drama as the image of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was torched by the DMDK cadres for insulting their party.
Similarly, in the Parliament elections in 2014, there was problem for the BJP in bringing the PMK and the DMDK into the alliance.
After days of persuasion the BJP succeeded in bringing the DMDK into the ‘Rainbow’alliance.
The Assembly elections in 2016 too witnessed the same drama as the DMK held talks with the DMDK till the eleventh hour but due to shortage in number of seats allotted to the party, the DMDK chose to align with People’s Welfare Front (PWF), which consisted of MDMK, VCK, Leftparties CPI and CPM.
However, the DMK is set to break the silence by sealing the alliance with its partners on Saturday.
VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan said, “The DMK had called for confirmation of alliance on Saturday. It is still not late as the election dates are yet to be announced.”
