It is said, the juveniles along with their 24 year old elder brother from a village near Vallam were fishing at the stagnant water in the Puthu Aaru river near Vannarappettai village on Sunday. Around noon, two police personnel in plain clothes approached them as if they were coming to buy fish and dragged the 24-year-old man with them. They forcibly took him in the bike.

Later when the juveniles were returning home walking with the two-wheeler of their elder brother that was left at the bank of the river, the plain clothes men returned and took the duo too.

The policemen reportedly branded one of the juveniles with a hot rod in his hand and also made injuries with sharp pin on the hand of another juvenile.

Later in the evening, the two juveniles were taken to a bridge near their house and were reportedly let off. One of the juveniles swooned and recovered after some time. They were rushed to the Medical College Hospital where they were treated as outpatient on Sunday and later on Monday was admitted to the trauma care unit of the General Surgery ward.

However the youth was still in the custody of the police, according to K Nagappan, the district organiser of the Palangudi Viduthalai Iyakkam.

He along with K Babu, the state coordinator for Access to Justice of the NGO Social Awareness Society for Youth (SASY) accompanied the wife of the detained youth from Kurava community to submit a petition to the Revenue Divisional officer, Thanjavur. Meanwhile a team of officials from the District Child Protection Unit (DPCU) visited the Medical College Hospital and inquired the juveniles about the incident.
