Managers of prisoner-run fuel outlets to give sale info every 6 hrs to DGP office
In an effort to ensure that the earnings made through the sale of petrol, high speed diesel and lubricants was not misappropriated, managers of the five outlets operated by good conduct prisoners of Vellore, Madurai, Pudukottai, Puzhal and Coimbatore prisons, have been ordered to e-mail details of sale volume to the office of the Director General of Police (prisons) six hours once.
Vellore
Sources said, “Officials did not want to have any remark in connection with the operation of the prisoner-run outlets. Three years ago, good conduct prisoners, who operated prison bazaars, were found withunaccounted cash. That episode exposed the improper maintenance of accounts.” Finally, the prison bazaars were shut down.
So, in the present initiative introduced in association with IndianOil, officials do not want to take even slightest of the chance and face trouble again.
The outlet near the Vellore central prison in three days has earned more than Rs 6.10 lakh turnover of the totalRs 22 lakh earned by all the five recently opened outlets in the state.
Officials seeking anonymity said, “Salesmen (good conduct prisoners) should hand over the cash to the outlet manager every two hours once. The manager should mail the sale details to the DGP’s office six hours once.”
It maybe noted that the prisons department decided to open six more retail fuel outlets, according to Vellore central prison officials.
IndianOil would be investing an additional Rs 10 crore and the outlets have been proposed at Chennai Ambattur, Salem, Tiruchy (airport road), Tiruchy Gandhi market, Madurai and Coimbatore, officials said and added thatthe outlets would supply petrol and high speed diesel, besides lubricants.
