Minister dedicates Railway projects in Tamil Nadu
Union Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal on Sunday laid the foundation stone for installation of 200 pre-fabricated toilets in railway stations across the state and a new foot overbridge for the Guindy Railway station at a function held at the Chennai Central Railway station here.

Speaking on the occasion, Goyal said that Swachhata Mission was receiving all the attention from railways and urged passengers to immediately alert railway officials if they find unclean toilets/stations during their journeys.
“As a step forward, toilet facilities are being provided at 200 railway stations in Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs 52 crore supported by the Neyveli Lignite Corporation under their CSR scheme,” he said.
The Union Minister claimed that Indian Railway had eliminated all unmanned level crossings in broad gauge routes and will not focus on elimination of manned level crossing in main routes to ensure speed, safety and security.
He also announced that due to the water scarcity faced by the city, water supply from NLC to Chennai would be doubled.
Speaking of the train set Train 18 made by the Integral Coach Factory here, he said that he was proud of the Indian railway engineers. Commending the NLC, Goyal said that the capacity of NLC has gone up by 80 per cent and growth doubled in the last 5 years.
The Union Minister also dedicated two pedestrian subways at LC No. 30 and 32 in Chengalpattu – Tambaram Section of Chennai Division and the renovated Booking Office and PRS Centre at Chennai Egmore railway junction. He also inaugurated a new booking office at the second entry of Guindy Railway station at the event.
