Family of three killed after car collides with lorry near Pollachi
A family of three from Erode district died after their car rammed head-on with a cement-laden lorry near Pollachi in Coimbatore on Sunday.

Police said, Selva Kavin (24) from Marappampalayam near Sivagiri in Erode district, his father Subramanian (56) and his father-in-law Kandasamy (52) were returning home from Palakkad in a car, when the mishap happened at 7:30 am.Â
They had gone to Kerala on Saturday for Selva Kavin to undergo Sidha treatment for an ailment. After treatment, the trio was returning home in a car driven by Kandasamy. While reaching Karumapuram Bridge, on the Pollachi- Palakkad Road, the car collided with a lorry with cement bags coming from the opposite direction. The lorry was proceeding to Palakkad from Ariyalur. In the impact, both Subramanian and Kandasamy were crushed to death on the spot inside the car.
On receiving information, a police team led by Pollachi DSP Jayaram rushed to the spot and sent Selva Kavin to the hospital. However, he died while on the way to the hospital. The fire and rescue personnel retrieved the trapped bodies of the duo.Â
Traffic was disrupted on the Pollachi-Palakkad stretch for over three hours. Police said that Selva Kavin was married last year and his wife was pregnant. Pollachi Taluk police registered a case against lorry driver Unnikannan (50) from Kozhikode and further inquiries were on. The body of the deceased persons was sent for a post-mortem examination at Pollachi GH.Â
