Accreditation of Tamil Nadu colleges to be expedited

As on date a total of 578 Colleges in Tamil Nadu has been assessed and accredited by the NAAC and more than 100 institutions in the State are still waiting to get the accreditation.

A senior official from TNDCE told DT Next that Tamil Nadu has the maximum number of colleges and universities accredited compared to any other states.

According to him, majority of the institutions in the State were accredited based on 1-5 stars grading system. “Since many colleges are still waiting to get accreditation, it has been decided to speed up the process”, the official added.

He said inspection and internal assessment of the colleges, which are in the waiting list, will be sped up by directing the authorities to submit the reports immediately without any delay.

“Since some educational institutions, which applied for NAAC accreditation, requires few improvements while others require moderate to major changes”, he said while adding that authorities will also guide these institutions to fulfil the required norms.

Pointing out that NAAC has identified a set of seven criteria to serve as the basis of its assessment procedures, the official said “these are curricular aspects, teaching-learning and evaluation, research innovations and extension, infrastructure and learning resources, student support, leadership and management and institutional values and best practices.”

“Once the waitlist colleges fulfilled all the criteria, the authorities here will move the application with NACC for getting accreditation”, he added.
