In his speech, Veermani reiterated it twice that Poongundran is not only presiding over the conference he would be the next president of DK.
Further speaking at the conference, Veeramani said that the DMK alliance is the strongest one to counter the communalist danger facing the people at present.
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration of the DK’s state conference in Thanjavur on Saturday he said the BJP-RSS led union government had disappointed all sections of the people. “The people would not allow this government to come to power once again,” he said.
He said that the DMK combine won all the 40 seats in the state during M Karunanidhi’s leadership, this time also the combine would win all the 40 seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. He elaborated that the aim of the state conference is to anoint the DMK combine in the seat of power at the Centre. Responding to a question, he said that the people of the state have already made up their minds for this and the alliance partners should also ready themselves for it.
He said, “Intellectuals are being branded “Urban Naxals” and are either killed by Hindutva extremists or else are being put behind bars based on foisted cases. Freedom of expression and right to speech are being denied in the country. The regime at the Centre is against the interests of the downtrodden, farmers, government employees. Even RBI Governors were forced to resign,” Veeramani said.
Taking a dig at the PMK, he said the party leaders who are saying that they would never tie up with Dravidian parties has now aligned with the ruling AIADMK. “It is a blessing in disguise as they have implied which is the real Dravidian party (DMK) by aligning with the AIADMK,” he added.
On the AIADMK-BJP-PMK alliance, the DK leader quipped their real problem is not the seat sharing but to name their alliance as Amit Shah reportedly dictated the alliance should be called NDA when he met the coordinator of AIADMK cum Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam in Madurai. He called the people to make a revolution through votes and the DK would indicate which alliance is capable of solving the people’s problems.
Earlier, V Kumaresan, the treasure of DK raised the party flag. S Arivukkarasu, the working committee president inaugurated the conference.
