Education loan waiver, Stalin’s first poll promise
While major parties in the State were yet to begin preparatory work for the Lok Sabha poll manifesto, DMK president made the first promise for the upcoming Parliamentary elections in Krishnagiri district on Saturday by assuring that education loans would be written off if the UPA was voted back to power at the Centre.

Addressing a grama sabha meeting at Thorapalli panchayat in Hosur, Stalin said, “The DMK had this provision (waiving of educational loans) as part of its election manifesto during the previous LS polls but the Narendra Modi-led BJP formed the government at the Centre and they failed to waive off loans. This time too, we will enlist this in our manifesto. If the DMK-alliance comes to power, all educational loans would be waived off,” Stalin said.
The alliance is also keen on supporting the elderly and would ensure pension for senior citizens, he added.
Speaking about farmers committing suicide, Stalin slammed the Modi government and Edappadi K Palaniswami-led AIADMK government, claiming they cheated the farmers with the promise of Rs 6,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. “If Modi had worked upon this scheme when he took charge, he would have been showered with accolades.
However, he deliberately chose this particular moment to make the announcement. It is nothing but a poll prank,” the DMK chief stated.
Stating that the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s death still remains a mystery, Stalin said, “If DMK comes to power, those who were responsible for Jaya’s death will be found in prison.”
