Candle light Homage To lost coconut trees
Coconut farmers in Pattukkottai on Saturday observed the 100th day since the devastating cyclone Gaja swept across the Delta districts, and paid a candle light homage to the damaged coconut trees. The coconut farmers in Pattukkottai and Peravurani areas assembled in the coconut farms and lit candles and observed silence.

Some of them broke down recalling the loss they incurred due to the destruction. The Delta districts were the most affected due to the cyclone, which made a land fall on November 16 last year. It destroyed crops in Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Pudukkottai. Coconut crops were completely damaged in Pattukkottai, Peravurai and Orathanadu in Thanjavur. At least 45 lakh coconut trees were uprooted and farmers lost their livelihood.
