Immediately after assuming charge as the Corporation Commissioner on Thursday, G Prakash convened a meeting with the representatives of political parties and directed them to follow the Madras High Court order.

“The High Court had banned the political parties from erecting banners on streets and roads. All the political parties should follow the court order and shouldn’t erect any banners,” G Prakash directed the representatives. He also warned that the Corporation would take stringent action against the violators.

According to a press release, persons who want to erect banners should apply to the civic body and get no objection certificate from the local police station.

“If the building, where the banners are to be erected, belongs to a private party or the government, political parties concerned should get prior permission from the building owner. After the permission period, members of political parties should remove the banners themselves,” the release added.

It may be recalled that the civic body had filed a police complaint against a shop owner, who erected an illegal banner near Santhome that led to the arrest of the person.
