Vellore
The Bagayam police on Wednesday cracked the murder of a 28-year-old woman by detecting that the wife of the victim staged a drama to hide evidences and to evade the investigators. Following this, the police arrested the woman along with five of her associates. Police said, Venkat Yuvaraj (28), a resident of Palavansathu Kuppam in Vellore town, husband of Gomathi (23), went missing on November 8, 2017. Subsequently, Gomathi lodged a ‘man missing’ complaint with the Bagayam police. Acting on the complaint, police began inquiries to trace Yuvaraj but failed to make headway in the case.
After more than 15 months, police found out that Rajkumar (40), a paramour of Gomathi, along with his friends, Senthil (33), Velu (32), Koteswaran (38) and Vijay (23), murdered Yuvaraj near the Mordana dam located near Gudiyattam. Further investigations revealed that Gomathi developed an affair with Rajkumar and when Yuvaraj came to know about this, he stopped her from going to work. Yuvaraj also prevented her from talking to Rajkumar. This enraged Gomathiand hence she plotted to kill her husband. Senthil, one of the friends of Rajkumar, befriended Yuvaraj by posing as an ex-serviceman and supplied him liquor. This continued for two months and finally when Senthil ran out of cash by feeding Yuvaraj, Rajkumar decided to kill him. The gang took Yuvaraj to Mordana dam fed liquor and strangulated him to death.
With the leads given by the accused, police recovered Yuvaraj’s skeleton along with his pants and an empty liquor bottle from the bushes near the dam. Based on Rajkumar’s confession, police arrested his friends and all five were remanded to custody.
