The Parliament elections is scheduled in May, this year, and announcement is likely before the mid of March. Before the announcement of elections, the parties, both national and regional, are desperate to seal the alliance with best allies.

As far as the state is concerned, both the AIADMK and the DMK are working hard to bring a final shape to their alliance. The AIADMK is holding talks with the BJP, the DMDK and the PMK along with other minor parties. At the same time the DMK is also holding talks with the PMK apart from its longstanding allies such as Congress, MDMK, VCK and the Left.

As the PMK holds upper hand in both the alliance, the presence of the VCK in the DMK alliance had become uncertain as its party leader, Thol Thirumavalavan, already announced that his party will not be part of the alliance that has the PMK or the BJP in it. Thirumavalavan had also placed two other demands, including two seats for his party and Chidambaram constituency for him. The VCK is closely monitoring the developments in the DMK alliance.

Well placed sources in the VCK said, “In case PMK comes into the DMK alliance the VCK has two chances, either to contest alone or to go with the AMMK,” said the sources.

Sources also said that AMMK deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran has lot of respect for Thirumavalavan and if he agrees for alliance with his party all demands of Thirumavalavan would be met along with respect. There were also rumours doing rounds in political circles that the VCK is holding talks with the AMMK.

However, VCK general secretary Ravi Kumar dismissed any such talks happening. “Only media is creating a new alliance with the AMMK,” he said.

When asked about the VCK stand on PMK in the alliance, Ravikumar said, “We had to wait and watch before jumping into any conclusion.”
