DMK copied MNM’s gram sabha meeting idea, says Kamal

In a veiled attack against the DMK president MK Stalin, who has been conducting mock gram sabha meetings in rural parts of the state, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) president Kamal Haasan asked the Dravidian major what it had been doing all these years.

“Didn’t they know about the gram sabha? What were they doing all these years?” he asked during an event organised by Rotaract in Chennai on Sunday.

He went further and said that ‘they’ are copying from him (conducting mock gram sabha meetings) even though he is a new entrant to politics. Responding to a question from a student, the actor-politician reiterated that Makkal Needhi Maiam would contest in all the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu and the lone seat in Puducherry in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. “It will affect us; hence I will contest for the sake of Tamil Nadu,” he added.

Insisting the young people to take part in active politics, Kamal said, “Politics start with you (students); nobody can stay away from it. Raising your voice on social media is also politics.”

Kamal, who was sharing various stages with the DMK leaders and seemed inclined towards the party during the early days of his political plunge, has turned more critical against the major opposition party, of late. Recently, he criticised both the DMK and the AIADMK as corrupt parties and said he would not shake hands with them.
