Addressing newspersons, Principal General Manager (Vellore and Tiruvannamalai) K Venkataraman said the exact date of its launch would be announced later.
“The 4G facility is being put to trial in Salem and Coimbatore, based on which the actual launch date would be decided upon,” he said.
Similarly, 3G services would shortly be introduced in rural areas in both districts, for which the telecom major was in the process of erecting 102 towers. “Work on 65 towers has already been completed at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore,” Venkataraman said.
Stating that the BSNL’s revenue and subscription count were increasing following problems faced by private networks, he said 1.35 lakh new connections were issued in the last one year. As many as 35,300 users switched over to the BSNL from other networks.
In a bid to encourage long-time BSNL users, the telecom utility will provide a 25 per cent cash back to those who pay a year’s rent in advance, while 15 per cent cash back will be given to those paying for 6 months, Venkataraman said.
The BSNL added 8,200 new landline subscribers in both Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts, and 5,200 new broadband subscribers. The company also added 1,000 new subscribers for the high-speed ‘Bharat Fibre’ broadband service.
