According to police, the deceased K Vishnu (20) from Vittal Nagar near Podanur and studying BBA second year at a private college in Walayar was stabbed to death with a broken beer bottle by his friend Sathish (18) from the same neighbourhood following a quarrel while consuming liquor. “Five friends have consumed liquor at a ground in Vittal Nagar on Saturday night. Then a quarrel broke out between Vishnu and Sathish and the duo entered into a fisticuff,” police said.

In a fit of rage, Sathish stabbed him on his neck multiple times with a broken beer bottle. Following this, the four persons had admitted him to a private hospital at Sundarapuram by claiming that he was injured in an accident. As Vishnu was in a critical condition, he was referred to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for treatment. However, he succumbed to injuries on Sunday morning.

On receiving information from CMCH, the Traffic Investigation Wing (TIW) sleuths arrived and found the college student to have sustained stab injuries. On further inquiry, the accused, who works as an operator in a lathe workshop, confessed to having killed his friend in a drunken brawl.

The Podanur police have registered a case in this regard and further investigation is on.
