MDMK, BJP workers clash in Tirupur
More than 400 members of various outfits led by MDMK leader Vaiko staged a black flag protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tirupur on Sunday.

The protesters released black balloons to the Prime Minister who reached Tirupur in a helicopter from Coimbatore. Tension prevailed when a BJP functionary hurled slippers at the gathering of protesters near Tirupur railway station.
Following this, the MDMK activists assaulted the woman with flagpoles triggering a minor clash between the BJP and protesting party cadre. A few persons were injured and glass panes of a car parked at the spot were damaged. The police immediately intervened and brought the situation under control.
Anticipating trouble, shops, bakeries and commercial establishments downed shutters near Tirupur railway station. The protesters raised slogans against Modi. MDMK leader Vaiko accused the Centre of acting against the interest of the state.
Some of the party workers also scaled up a tower in protest. Apart from MDMK, members of various outfits including Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam and May 17 Movement staged protests.
