VCK chief keen on Chidambaram seat

From exuding confidence on probable success of the DMK-led secular alliance, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan has reduced to expressing hope that they would be invited for alliance talks by the DMK for the ensuing Parliamentary elections.

Thirumavalavan, who elicited the views of his party workers in the city on Saturday, said they (allies) expect the DMK to invite them for alliance talks. He also cared to clarify that their significance would not be reduced by the arrival of new parties to the alliance.

He has made a reassuring statement on his presence in the alliance led by the DMK in the backdrop of reports suggesting that the DMK and the PMK were holding parleys for a possible electoral understanding.

Thirumavalavan’s ‘hopeful’ statement comes after DMK treasurer Duraimurugan said the existing partners might walk out of the alliance over difference in allocation of a single seat and new parties might join the fold at the nickof the time.

While the DMK did not care to add on the statement, critics were quick to speculate that the Dravidian major would not mind undermining the Dalit party in the event of the Vanniyar-backed PMK getting on board.

Curiously, the uncertainties did not deter Thirumavalavan, who had claimed a few days ago that he would not be an alliance comprising the PMK from making a fresh bid for Chidambaram Parliamentary constituency.

Asked if he would contest in Chidambaram, Thirumavalavan said, “I will contest in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. I have been contesting there since 1999. It’s my home constituency. I am a voter of the constituency. I have expressed my interest in Chidambaram already. During the seat sharing talks, we will furnish the list of constituencies, hold discussion and find an amicable solution,” apparently, hinting at making a bid for the seat with the DMK if he continues in the alliance.
