Couple sentenced for murder

According to officials, Sasikumar (41), resident of Pakkam village near Paradarami and a lorry driver was married to Nirmala (32). Sasikumar invited his friend Velan (38) of the same village, working as a driver to live in his house so that they could work together.

However, an illicit relationship developed between Velan and Nirmala which came to Sasikumar’s knowledge. On Oct 31, 2017, when Velan was asleep, Sasikumar killed him. When Nirmala knew about the incident, Sasikumar confessed to the crime and asked her help to cover up the murder.

Since Sasikala agreed, both took Velan’s body to the Gudiyattam Government Hospital and stated that he had died in an accident. They also informed Velan’s relatives, who refused to accept Sasikumar’s version of crime. Hence, they filed a complaint with the Paradarami police. Later, they both were arrested for the murder. When the case which came up before Judge S Gunasekaran, he sentenced the couple to jail.

Meanwhile, in another incident, the Vellore fast track court sentenced a lorry driver to life term for murdering his wife.

According to sources, the couple Perumal (41) and Manjula (34), were residents of Bharathinagar in Katpadi. Though married for a few years, Perumal suspected the fidelity of his wife which lead to frequent quarrels between the couple. On November 23, 2012 when Perumal called his wife on her mobile but no response. When Perumal raised the issue when he reached home, the couple started quarrelling again.

Enraged at her answers, Perumal doused Manjula with diesel and set her alight. Later he was arrested. The fast track court sentenced Perumal to a life sentence and also levied a fine of Rs 10,000.
