    Body of engg student with severed head found on track in Salem dist

    The body of a 19-year-old youth with his head severed was found on the railway track near Muthampatti in Salem district on Friday.

    The deceased person was identified as A Guhan Raj, a resident of Singipuram village near Vazhapadi. He was a second year BE student at a private college in Rasipuram in Namakkal district.


    According to sources, Guhan did not return home from college on Thursday. Subsequently, his parents and relatives searched the nearby areas.


    “Guhan’s parents then visited the houses of his friends in Vazhapadi, since he had reached there by bus. They had believed that Guhan must have gone there. However, they were not able to find him,” police said. A missing case was also filed with police.


    A few passers-by noticed the body of a youth with his head severedlying on the tracks between Salem-Virudhachalam sections on Friday morning and alertedthe police.


    On receiving information, Guhan’s parents arrived at the spot and confirmed the body of the deceased to be their son.


    The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination at the Salem Government Hospital.


    The Vazhapadi police have registered a case and are investigating whether he had committed suicide or was murdered elsewhere and his body left on the tracks.
