While one group was protesting to retain their headmaster, the other pitched for the physical director.  Both the teachers were transferred for participating in the recently concluded JACTTO-GEO strike.

As many as 300 students, alng with their parents, of the Government Elementary School at Karkonam village in Thurinjapuram panchayat union refrained from attending classes protesting the transfer of the headmaster, J Anbazhagan to another school at Vedanthavadi.

When information about the transfer of the headmaster reached students and their parents, residents locked the school and demanded the reinstatement of Anbazhagan.

Agitated parents said that Anbazhagan was instrumental in introducing several progressive measures in the school, which also registered significant in pass percentage during his stint. Several students broke down during the protest.

On receipt of information, education department officials rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the agitating students and parents.

The officials promised that the grievance would be informed to the district administration.

Satisfied with the reply, parents called off the protest and students returned to their classes. Similarly, 800 students of the Government Higher Secondary School at Kattampoondi village adjacent to Thandarampattu, abstained from attending classes.

The students demanded to rescind the transfer order of physical director, Sivapragasan, who has been shifted to a school at Periyakulam. It may be noted that Sivaprgasam received the order two days ago.

On hearing about the agitation, Thachampattu police and education officials reached the spot and held talks. The agitators were assured that their grievance would be taken to the notice of the district education officials, after which the agitators dispersed.
