Hospitals train public on first-aid during emergencies
Hospitals and medical institutions have taken it upon themselves to train the public on disaster management and first-aid to ensure there is reduction in fatality during emergency situations.

Stating that such programmes have been taken up by both government as well as private hospitals across the state, a government hospital doctor said, “Ensuring that a pool of volunteers are created is essential.” He added, “This way, we can avoid loss of lives in the case of a disaster or an emergency situation.” In a similar initiative, Fortis Malar Hospital created a platform to create awareness on health issues.
Stating that the key aim of the programme is to educate and train students of government schools, staff members of NGOs, social workers, Anganwadi workers and other institutes supporting the under-privileged community, Dr Deepan, Emergency Medicine Department, said, “More than 1,100 students from various schools including Government Higher Secondary Schools, Arumbakkam and Kanchipuram, ADW Girls Higher Secondary School, Arakkonam and Presidency Girls Government Higher Secondary School along with teachers have been trained through this initiative.”
He added, “The curriculum comprises of 2.5 hours of First Aid and Basic Life Support training.” “Several unanticipated disasters may occur and knowledge of how to handle these disasters can be critical to saving lives for the community at large,” he added.
