The money was allegedly collected received as bribe to sanction the grant of Rs 25,000 cash and 8 grams of gold under the state government’s free marriage assistance scheme.
Though the scheme was implemented on December 22, 707 beneficiaries, who were forced to pay bribe, lodged complaint with the vigilance officials who then raided the office and seized the cash.

Similarly, Dayalan, a health inspector of a PHC, who was shifted to the birth and death department in the Vellore government medical college hospital, started collecting cash from patients to issue birth/death certificates though rules specify that the fee has to be paid into the bank account.
As Dayalan’s started demanding more money, affected parties lodged a complaint with the vigilance personnel, who conducted a raid subsequently and recovered unaccounted cash of Rs 18,000 from him. Later, a case was filed against Dayalan.
