According to a release, Ponnusamy, Founder and State President, Tamil Nadu Milk Agents and Labourers Welfare Association, said, “After Hutson dairy company raised the price of Arokya milk, private companies in the state have also raised the price of the milk by Rs 2 per litre, leaving the people worried.”
Recently, Hutson announced a hike in the price of Arokya milk (both standardised and full cream milk) by Rs 2 per litre. Following Hutson, private milk companies both, within and outside, the state have increased the price by Rs 2 per litre. The hike has affected people and though there were requests from milk agents to reduce the prices, they haven’t reduced.
Ponnusamy added that majority of people in the state consume private milk and the hike in price might affect the people.
“Out of total 1.5 crore litres of milk sold on a daily basis, Aavin sells 25 lakh litres per day and the remaining 83.4 per cent of milk is sold by private companies.
When such is the scenario, even a hike of Rs 2 would have a great impact on the people and due to the hike, poor families will avoid giving milk for their children,” Ponnusamy added.
