Thambidurai differs from Palaniswami on Union Budget
A day after Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami welcomed the Union Budget stating that the BJP’s last interim budget will drive the country towards economic growth, senior AIADMK leader and Lok Sabha deputy speaker M Thambidurai, who skipped the budget session, termed it as not so impressive.

“This is a routine budget that resembles the BJP’s manifesto. There is nothing concrete for Tamil Nadu,” the Karur MP told reporters on Saturday.
Stating that the budget failed to address issues related to farmers, Thambidurai said: “The budget has assured Rs 6,000 as an annual direct income support, but this is too little for the farmers. It should have been at least Rs 12,000.”
The veteran AIADMK leader, who has in the past voiced statements against the BJP, also claimed that there were no projects or schemes specific to Tamil Nadu in the budget.
“Tamil Nadu has not benefited from the BJP in the past five years and the budget reflects the same. Even on Mekedatu, the BJP has been playing politics by taking a double stand. It has been supporting Karnataka,” he said.
Commenting about the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the AIADMK MP said the party was gearing up for the elections and was confident of winning all the 40 seats in TN and Puducherry. Poll committees have been formed and the AIADMK is ready for the polls, he said.
