Youth constitute nearly half of TN’s 5.91 crore strong electorate
It’s time for the political parties to pamper the voters in the age group of 30 to 39 year of age as this category accounts for close to 24 per cent of the total voters in Tamil Nadu.

The young population of the state ranging from 18 years to 39 years of age will account for 44 per cent of the electorate strength. Under the aged category, nearly ten lakh voters come under 80 plus category. The total electorate now stands at 5.91crore (5,91,23,197) voters as per the final revised electoral rolls released on Thursday.
This includes 2,92,56,960 men, 2,98,60,765 women and 5,472 persons from the third gender.
“With three more months remaining for the Lok Sabha polls youngsters crossing 18 years of age can include their names into the supplementary voters roll,” Chief Electoral Officer Sathyabrata Sahoo, who released the revised voters roll at secretariat told reporters.
After corrections, the capital Chennai accounts for the maximum number of voters in a district. Shozhinganallur has the highest number of voters with 6.18 lakh voters. Harbour Assembly constituency is the smallest with 1.65 lakh electors.
Bypoll-bound Tiruparankundram Assembly constituency has more number of first time voters with 7,696 electorate including 3,507 young women voters in the age group of 18-19 years. “A total of 13 lakh new applications have been enrolled and 5,62,937 voters have been removed due to death, change of place and duplication,” the CEO said.
A total 14.29 lakh applications were received for inclusion of names and this process will continue. Those finding their names missing from the voters’ roll can reach out to the electoral registration officers or can apply online through www.nvsp.in.
Based on the Election Commission’s directions, a dedicated district contact centre has been established in every district and can be reached through toll free helpline 1950. Further another tollfree helpline 180042521950 will be functioning at the office of CEO, Tamil Nadu, election officials said adding 97 overseas electors have also enrolled.
